Claiming Social Security at 62 can be the right choice

Many Social Security Advisors and Financial Consultants will suggest you delay applying for your Social Security benefits as long as possible because your benefit amount will continue to grow until you are 70 years of age. But there are certain times when it makes perfect sense to claim benefits as soon as you’re eligible at age 62. If someone cannot collect benefits on your account until you claim, if you want to delay taking a higher survivor benefit until it reaches maximum, or if your pension from a career in public service, when it kicks in, will eventually reduce your Social Security benefit, then claiming your benefits as early as possible could very well be the best option for you.
