Folks aging into Social Security eligibility have a very basic decision to make: When to file.  Early filing (i.e., prior to Full Retirement Age) means a reduced benefit, while deferring up to four years beyond FRA provides a substantial income boost. The math part is pretty straightforward, but the matter of selecting a filing age that best fits your personal situation is not always that clear. Can you afford to defer?
