Mercatus Center to host former Treasury Secretary Summers
Mercatus Center’s Conversations with Tyler series will host an address by Lawrence H. Summers—former Treasury Secretary, President Emeritus of Harvard University, and one of America’s leading economists on Wednesday, September 6 in Washington. In a paper published at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign, Summers cited the importance to the economy of pro-growth policies, suggesting “Growth provides the wherewithal for increased federal revenue and so encourages the protection of vital social insurance programmes such as Social Security and Medicare. It creates headroom for new initiatives such as expansions of the Earned Income Tax Credit.” Now that the business community is nine months into the Trump presidency, it should be interesting to hear an update on his thoughts.
