New Medicare Card Format Introduces New Vistas for Crooks

Yes, your Social Security number has been removed from your Medicate Identification. No, that doesn’t mean the scammers will stop using it as an avenue to get at you. In fact, as reported in this post on The News-Enterprise by Mindy Eaton, director of communications and marketing for the Better Business Bureau’s regional office in Kentucky, a whole new approach to nefarious purposes has been introduced via the process to replace your Medicare Identification card with a format showing a Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) instead of your Social Security number.
