New Medicare cards start appearing next month

In an effort to curb identity theft, Congress mandated in 2015 that Medicare stop using the Social Security Number (SSN) as a means of identification, which meant that Medicare cards for all beneficiaries will need to be replaced because they now use the SSN to identify you for healthcare purposes. The new Medicare cards will be mailed to recipients in successive waves starting in April 2018, with Hawaii and number of other states and territories included in the first wave which lasts from April – June.
