Rep. Ron Kind Challenges Administration on National Debt, Cites Social Security/Medicare Growth

In a recent House Committee on Ways and Means hearing on the President’s Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Proposals, Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wisconsin) challenged Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchen on the national debt, suggesting that the federal government is not in position to make a huge fiscal mistake. Citing the 70 million “Baby Boomers” registering–at the rate of 10,000 per day–for Medicare and Social Security, Kind suggested that the debt problem exacerbated by the tax cuts and budget proposals is “setting future generations up for failure.” Watch a livestream of the hearing on the Committee’s website…Rep. Kind’s remarks begin just past the 54 minute mark on the recording.
