Social Security financial problems: How they were fixed the last time

With all of the publicity about Social Security’s financial woes, you might think that this has never happened before.  But you would be wrong.  Back in the early 1980’s, Social Security finances were in a similar predicament and it was thought that benefits wouldn’t be paid on time starting in 1983.  What it took back then, and what will certainly be needed now, is a bipartisan effort by Congress and the President to agree on and enact reform measures to fix the problems.  This madison.com article by Motley Fool’s Matthew Frankel reviews the history of what happened in the early 1980’s, and what might be done now, to resolve Social Security’s financial issues.  Click here to read more.
