Trend points to more people waiting to start Social Security

Though a majority of people still claim their Social Security benefits earlier than their full retirement age, it seems that more people are now choosing to wait a little longer to apply.  Some would argue that is because of the full retirement age rising for those born after 1954, but reality is that many more people are choosing to continue working well into their 60’s because longevity is increasing, and also because of the movement away from traditional defined benefit retirement plans in the private sector.  This FEDWeek article explains that a study has revealed a trend toward delaying retirement and, thus, claiming their Social Security benefits.  Click here to read more.
