WILL SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS FINALLY BE BANISHED FROM MEDICARE CARDS?

Over the past several years, there’s been much talk in Congress about removing Social Security numbers from Medicare beneficiary cards, but no action. Bills have been introduced only to wither away without a vote. However, things may finally be changing. The House Ways and Means Committee recently advanced H.R. 1021, the Protecting the Integrity of Medicare Act. The bill, which would require the HHS secretary to scrub Social Security number from all Medicare cards within four years of enactment, will now proceed to the entire House for a vote. Read more…
