A Q & A on the Stimulus Package

The basic rules for who gets a stimulus payment are relatively simple – individuals with income less than $75,000 get $1,200 and married couples with income under $150,000 will get $2400, plus $500 for each dependent child.  Simple on the surface, but there are millions of special cases – such as those on SS disability, those living overseas and getting Social Security, folks now on Supplemental Security Income, and those who do not file income taxes – who are anxious about if and when they will get a payment. In this MarketWatch article, columnist  Alessandra Malito fields stimulus questions from readers in these special situations. Click here to read more.

  1. My name is Kerry I am 74 years of age I do not work and I am not only disabled and have been for some time now and I am on social security so I recieve ssi & ssa I got the last two stimulus checks or rather the money was deposited on/into my green Express card I think it is called the Direct Express debit card that when I recieve my ssa & ssi benefits once a month they are deposited in or onto my direct express card and my stimulus money should come on or rather be deposited into my my direct express card just the exact same as my regular benefits would have normally have came in but I am curious because I have been waiting for some time now to hear anything back about my stimulus money because I haven’t currently heard a single thing back about my stimulus money and from what ive been hearing most everyone with a bank account and who gave the irs their direct deposit information for them to be able to receive their stimulus money has pretty much all received theirs by the date of the 17th which from what I have also heard was the first wave or what not of people who were eligible to receive the third stimulus payment has already all gotten theirs and i know people on social security are supposedly set up to receive theirs as a completely separate wave of people who are still set to receive theirs yet still haven’t nor have they received a date for which they are likely to begin seeing the stimulus money from this third round of stimulus money being sent to several Americans who are set to see this money hit their direct express cards at least from the perspective of anyone who receives sea or ssi and or who is a social security beneficiary recipient such as myself and who has been on & received social security benefits for the last several years of my life in my senior citizen years and also who qualified for and received the money from the first stimulus check and the money from the second stimulus check as well and will receive once a payment date is finally set forth and i manage to receive the money for /& from/my/the third stimulus check that I thankfully qualify for/& to also receive from the Stimulus Bill or what? The CARES Act bill that Biden thankfully passed but I haven’t heard anything new about the stimulus money that I should be/am suppose to be receiving on my direct express card and I am in need of that money as soon as possible like everyone else & hopefully it comes soon or quick rather but I was just curious if there was any new information yet from the irs or at the very least not that I have seen as of yet but I wasn’t sure if they just haven’t posted any new information as of yet or if anyone from this current question and answer page about the and or really any date or dates we could possibly see here soon thank you please get back to me

    • Kerry,
Please be aware that questions about the most recent stimulus checks are not a Social Security matter, but rather are under the sole control of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Therefore, we cannot give you a definitive answer as to when you will receive your economic relief payment. However, our understanding at The AMAC Foundation is that all SSDI recipients will receive the latest payment, but the schedule for receiving it will vary depending on several factors, such as if you file an income tax return and how you receive your SSDI benefit payment, as well as when you started receiving SSDI benefits. The first “wave” of stimulus payments has already begun but is not yet completed, so you may get your payment soon. But some SSDI recipients will not be included in the first wave of payments, and only the IRS knows the details of when individual payments will be sent. I suggest you monitor this IRS website https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments to find the status of your personal stimulus payment.

  2. You are eligible for the payment. Once we have your payment date, we will update this page.

We will deposit your payment to the bank account below.
how long does it take to get a payment date?

    • LeRoy,
The IRS has not shared details of how stimulus payments will be processed, so we cannot answer your question. Obviously you have already been checking the status of your payment at the IRS’ “Get My Payment” portal, and I suggest you continue to check there daily. The IRS says they update that site once daily, so there is no need to check more than once per day. FYI, stimulus payments are administered by the IRS and not the Social Security Administration, and we are not privy to how the IRS is handling stimulus payments; we can only report on the information the IRS posts at it’s coronavirus website.

  3. I draw ssd and I don’t have to file taxes but i did receive a SSA-1099. Do I have to file the simple tax return or not .

    • Betty:

Originally, the IRS guidelines indicated that the contact and banking information on your SSA-1099 would suffice for sending you your payment. As of yesterday, though, the direction is that you may need to file a short-form online (free) 2019 tax return in order to expedite your stimulus payment. The IRS further indicated that they will soon be launching online assistance to guide filers through this fairly simple filing process.
