Another Push to Re-open Social Security Offices
Citing the availability of COVID-19 vaccines and the inadequacy of a “top-down, one-size-fits-all approach to federal office reopening plans,” a contingent of congressional representatives led by Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security Ranking Member Tom Reed (R-NY) renewed the call for U.S. Office of Management and Budget, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, and the U.S. General Services Administration to “immediately and safely reopen existing federal offices.” Sierra Sun Times reported on the action in a post on their website, which included a link to the actual letter. I cannot get in contact wit anyone to make an in-person appointment. I have been trying for over a week! What can I do to make an appointment because over the phone appointment seem impossible!

The Social Security Administration still carries this notice on their website: “During the current coronavirus pandemic, we continue to provide help to you and other people in your communities. While our offices are not providing service to walk-in visitors due to COVID-19, we remain ready and able to help you by phone with most Social Security business. You can speak with a representative by calling your local Social Security office or our National 800 Number. You can find local office phone numbers online by using our Social Security Office Locator.”
We know they are under some pressure from Congress to re-open, but a date for this to happen is still unkwown. I FEEL THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICES ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IF RETAIL AND GROCERY STORES ARE OPEN IT IS TIME THAT FERERAL OFFICES OPEN . TAXPAYERS PAYING TAXES NEED A BETTER VOICE IN GOVERMENT.
I totally agreed with you. SSA has been closed since March 2020 due to COVID 19 pandemic but they getting paid? If so, it’s just crazy and selfish, and no different than the teachers demanding raise and to be respected when they are refusing to treturn to the classes to teach the kids face-to-face? We, the American no longer have any right, the only the Illigal and the criminal do. And, the only right? for the hard working, tax paying American ‘s right is “Remain silent, if not it will be used against us” I pray that the America wake up from this nightmare, ASAP!

For information, although all SSA offices have been closed to public access due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are nevertheless still working full time within those offices, handling all SSA matters via telephone or through online access. The lack of public access to SSA offices has indeed resulted in long telephone wait times and delays for services, but we understand that the SSA is now permitting in-person access, by appointment only, for specific critical services.
