Social Security payments after death of a spouse

There are a myriad of rules and regulations regarding Social Security benefits, and they are quite complex to the layperson. In this post, Phillip Moeller describes what happens to the Social Security benefits both spouses were receiving when one dies.  To say the least, many find that living on just one monthly check is quite difficult.  Read the article here…  Note, the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) has, as part of a comprehensive plan to increase the longevity of Social Security, a provision that would significantly increase survivor benefits.  Read the full plan here.

  1. MY MOTHER PASTED AWAY ON DECEMBER 25TH 2019 SHE HAD A CHECKED POST IN BANK AND NOW THEY TOOK AWAY IS THAT RIGHT OR IS SHE DUE THAT MONEY

    • David:

Thank you for contacting the Amac Foundation’s Social Security Advisory Service, and please accept our condolences on your mother’s passing. In response to your question, the check deposited in her account in December was actually payment for her November benefit. As such, she was eligible for that payment. You will need to file a Form SSA-1724 | Claim For Amounts Due In The Case Of Deceased Beneficiary to reclaim this benefit. You can access this form via the SSA.gov website at https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ssa-1724.html.

If we can be of any further assistance to you, please contact us via email ([email protected]) or telephone (888-750-2622).
