A Tool to Track Stimulus Payment to Prevent Fraud

Ashley Moody, Florida Attorney General, issued an advisory to folks who have not already received an economic impact payment (stimulus payment) from the IRS, noting that the agency has released a new tool to help Floridians avoid stimulus-related fraud. Labeled “Get My Payment,” the tool is a web-based portal where eligible recipients can track their payment, and thus avoid scammers and fraudsters intent on hijacking funds from deserving Americans. The “Get My Payment” tool can be accessed here. Also, read Attorney General Moody’s full alert here… Although her press release is Florida-specific, the advice and warnings are universally applicable to all Americans.

The economic impact payment (stimulus) process is administered by the IRS; unfortunately, we are not involved in the details of the process and are not able to answer your procedural question. However, please note that on May 7, the Social Security Administration posted an extensive update to their website addressing a variety of details associated with the economic impact (stimulus) check processing process. We re-posted a link to this material on this website (https://socialsecurityreport.org/ssa-provides-updated-guidance-on-covid-19-impact-payments). On the fraud issue, check this article posted on our Foundation website: https://www.fdacs.gov/content/download/91529/file/April2020FloridaConsumerAlert-English.pdf. It’s a Florida-based article, but the fraud information is universal.

Our understanding is that anyone receiving direct deposit payments from Social Security is included in the first wave of checks…the wave being released now and over the next few weeks. I would continue to check the status portal: irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.. This payment process is administered by the IRS; unfortunately, we are not involved in the details of their payment scheduling.
