Mullin: VA Change Will Help More Oklahoma Veterans

WASHINGTON — A policy change at the Department of Veterans Affairs will allow more veterans in Oklahoma to receive medical care outside of the VA system, Rep. Markwayne Mullin said Tuesday. The department will now allow veterans whose driving distance to a VA hospital exceeds 40 miles to seek care from private physicians. Until the change, the 40-mile distance was computed using a straight line from a veteran’s residence to the nearest VA hospital. “Calculating a veteran’s driving distance from their home to their nearest VA clinic makes more sense than using a straight line,” said Mullin, R-Westville.
