Name That Scam: Beware of government-like websites

There are many websites out there promising to help you get through government red tape — for a fee, of course. It’s often for services you can get for free. They even look like government websites. It’s part of this week’s Name That Scam.

Be careful of a company called www.govsimplified.com, which promises to do most of the legwork for you to get a Social Security card, all for the low fee of $29.

All you need to do is fill out a simple questionnaire. They’ll send you a package with all the documents you need to send to the Social Security Office. There’s no waiting in line and your card will be delivered directly to your home.  Read more…
