Lawmakers cut costs on mailings
Ohio members of Congress have cut back on the amount of literature — some call it propaganda — sent to constituents at taxpayers’ expense but have discovered another means for communicating their messages: e-mail Congressional franking – the term used for taxpayer-funded constituent mailings – is on the decline. Ohio’s U.S. House delegation spent $173,823 on franking expenditures in 2013, down from $1.1 million in 2010. From 5 percent of total office expenses in 2010, franking costs were down to about 1 percent in 2013.
