Social Security proposals go the wrong way

Democrats have a problem. They created the two main benefit programs for seniors, Social Security and Medicare, but older voters have been shunning their party in droves. President Barack Obama took only 44 percent of the senior vote in his 2012 re-election. This explains in part the Democrats’ new push to increase Social Security benefits. First proposed by former senator Tom Harkin of Iowa, the idea has been promoted more recently by Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
