“Ownership Crisis” in Boomer Businesses
The retirement of Baby Boomers is greatly affecting the business world in a weird way. There is an overabundance of available businesses being left in the wake of the retirement exodus. Many of these businesses are failing to find buyers and are being liquidated leading to a loss of jobs and wealth potential. Even those that find buyers are being downsized and relocated. One proposed solution is to start moving these businesses in to an employee owned business model. This would leave the owner of the business free to retire with the benefit of not stressing over trying to find a buyer or liquidating the entire business. This also leaves the employees with a job and a better sense of entitlement and loyalty to their company. For more information on this topic, visit this article by Devin Thorpe with Forbes.
