Will Congress act to hold down Medicare premiums?
Without Congressional action in this year’s “lame duck” session, Medicare Part B premiums could soar for about 15 million people not protected by Social Security’s hold harmless provision. These are the people who will be enrolling in Medicare for the first time in 2017, and seniors whose earnings are above the $85,000 limit. Those over 65 who are already enrolled in Part B will likely see their just announced 0.3% COLA totally consumed by increased Part B premium costs, but that’s a much smaller hit than new Part B enrollees will face.
