Social Security can be started anywhere from age 62 to age 70, but the most common age people choose is 62. And there are some pretty good reasons for starting benefits early, including simply needing the money. But there is one very, very bad reason for starting benefits early, and that is fear that the Social Security program is going broke. As this Motley Fool article by Matthew Frankel explains, though the program certainly has some financial issues that need to be addressed, it’s not going broke anytime soon, so that is the absolute worst reason for starting to collect early.
