Reviewing 2018 Social Security and Medicare changes
Though we’re well into the year, now might be a good time to review the changes that were made to both Social Security and Medicare for 2018, if only as a reminder of what could also change next year. Certain Social Security thresholds change annually, including the payroll tax cap, the earnings limit, and the maximum benefit amount. For Medicare, the basic monthly Part B premium amount was, and may again be adjusted to compensate for the rising cost of healthcare, and the premium surcharge amount for high-earners could change also. All of these thresholds changed in 2018 and could very well change again next year.
