Social Security options for divorced spouses
Though there are some nuances that will affect your eligibility, ex-spouse’s are generally just as entitled to spousal benefits as are current spouse’s. This often misunderstood fact is, if you are divorced, one that could come as really good news for an ex who is struggling to make ends meet. Generally, if you were married to your ex for at least 10 years and you are at least 62 years old, you can collect on your ex-spouse’s work record if that amount is higher than your own benefit amount.
