The Rising Cost of Health Care for Retirees

It’s certainly no secret that health care represents a substantial–and growing–financial concern for retirees now and in the future. Statistics available from Fidelity Investments via the National Association of Plan Advisors (NAPA) note that “… a 65-year-old couple retiring in 2019 can expect to spend $285,000 in health care and medical expenses throughout retirement.” Although that tab increased a mere 1.7% from 2018’s estimate, it’s still a pretty large chunk of change. For more background on these estimates, check out these two articles posted recently at www.napa-net.org: retiree-health-care-costs-rise-again and retiree-health-care-cost-climbs.
