A Call for Attention to Social Security’s Problems
That Social Security is facing dire circumstances in the not-too-distant future is a well-known fact. That the options to fix the problem grow more severe with each passing month is also a well-known fact. And yet, the political realities and consequences of tackling the problem present major roadblocks that block progress on a resolution. In about 15 years, give or take, the program’s financial reserves will reach the endpoint and cause a substantial across-the-board benefit cut that would profoundly affect the lives of America’s seniors…unless corrective action is taken, and soon!
Congressional bills come and go, and a steady stream of new proposals continues to hit the aorwaves, but getting action to shore up the Social Security System is elusive. A post by Gary Boatman in the Herald-Standard (Uniontown, Pennsylvania) puts this situation in perspective: “It is important that SS stop being a political football. People have worked and paid into the system their whole lifetimes, so they deserve to receive their benefit. There needs to be some adjustments, and the sooner the better.” Read more on Boatman’s thoughts here…
The Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) recognizes the severity of this problem, and has been working for years to get the attention of lawmakers via its “Social Security Guarantee,” a legislative framework that would resolve the long-term funding issue, and that would not require any further tax burden on American workers.
