Warning: Scammers are posing as contact tracers
The Federal Trade Commission is warning the public of a new text scam using coronavirus response efforts as a cover to obtain financial information. According to the Federal Trade Commission, scammers are posing as contact tracers sending, text messages to swipe Social Security, credit card, and bank account numbers. How are they doing this? Using an approach similar to valid health department messages that recipients should expect a call from a specific number, scammers will often include links that download software that grants them access to a victim’s device.
