The Long Overdue Social Security Trustees Report

For those who closely follow Social Security matters, the unprecedented delay in publishing the annual report from the Trustees of Social Security is frustrating, and that includes members of Congress. The Trustees’ report is published annually to provide a detailed picture of Social Security’s financial status, now and in the future. This year finds us in August with still no indication of when the new report, which was due in April, will be published and that’s a problem for members of Congress who wish to fashion Social Security (and Medicare) legislation, and also for those in the business of providing counsel to Social Security beneficiaries and future beneficiaries.
