“Unclaiming” Social Security Benefits
There are situations where a Social Security claimant has a legitimate reason for wanting to “un-claim” their benefits. It does happen, as in cases where the person may have lost their job and elected to file to deal with absence of income, only to land a replacement job earlier than anticipated. There are other situations where a person has filed before their full retirement age, not understanding the “discount” they’ve taken on their monthly benefit.
