Social Security Surprises – 15 to Know

The first and last points are especially important: the program only replaces 40% of pre-retirement income, and you cannot live on Social Security alone. Other key points include Medicare is generally taken from benefits, benefits are less if taken before full retirement age (now 67), and benefits have lost their buying power over time.
