Reasons to Check Your SSA Annual Statement
Verifying the information included on your annual Social Security statement is an important thing to do, and can save you a lot of difficulty later in the event there are mistakes or omissions in the information contained in the statement. For example, if a piece of your earnings information has somehow been omitted from the record, following up immediately to get it added is easier than doing it a few years down the road. And, since earnings are a key ingredient in the calculation of your benefit, such an omission could lower the amount available to you at retirement.
