Clearing Up the Rumors on Veterans Benefits, As Well as a Rumor on Prisoner Benefits
One of the more persistent rumors we hear about at the AMAC Foundation Social Security Advisory Service involves the belief that Veterans are missing out on extra Social Security benefits earned as a result of their service. As Social Security columnist Tom Margenau points out in a post on ncnewsonline.com, there really is an additional benefit associated with military service, but it’s related to the manner in which benefits are calculated rather than a simple “additional payment.” See his post here for a complete explanation. Margenau also explains a rumor circulating widely among the incarcerated that, upon release, eligibility for disability benefits is sort of automatic. Again, check his post out for more details.
Also, if you have any questions about these issues–or any other aspects of Social Security–know that the AMAC Foundation Social Security Advisory Service is available on-demand and free of charge. Learn more about this program and how to access it here.
