Women and Social Security–An Explanation of Why Their Concerns are More Prominent
There is a disparity between the comfort levels men and women have with respect to the role that Social Security will play in their future retirement, according to the Women and Wealth segment of Northwestern Mutual’s 2023 Planning & Progress Study, which you can access here. A post by GoBankingRate’s contributor Gabrielle Olya explores this disparity and the results of the Northwestern study, with much of the blame suggested to be the result of an inherent distrust of government and established financial institutions–a distrust promulgated by the historic lack of women’s perspectives in policy setting and tool development. As the post points out, this pessimism is even more pronounced around Gen X and Millennial women.
