Happy Labor Day, 2025!

The first Monday in September is recognized as Labor Day in America. It has been that way since 1894, when President Grover Cleveland signed the legislation into law. While there is speculation about why that spot on the calendar was selected, many historians point to it being a midway point between Independence Day and Thanksgiving. Who knows?

Most of us consider Labor Day to designate the unofficial end of summer and a final respite before settling in for the fall and, later, winter months. But it’s more than that. It’s the time when we celebrate the American worker and the workforce’s contributions to creating the economy we now enjoy. The workforce is large, comprising more than 170 million people, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, with approximately 60% of the U.S. population engaged in the various capacities that constitute the economy.

So, whether you enjoy a family picnic, gather with friends, enjoy a sporting event, or just relax, take a moment to reflect on the importance of a solid, productive workforce and what it means to all that we have. The editorial staff here at the AMAC Foundation extends its best wishes for a peaceful holiday to you!
