Keep Your Social Security Payments Safe - theglobeandmail.com
There are things you can do to protect your Social Security payments from being stolen. If you have a Direct Express Card or are being switched to one as your paper checks are being stopped, there are ways to protect yourself.
When you set up your account online, never use information that is easily linked to you. Never use information such as your birthday, your pet’s name, the city where you were born, your Social Security number, or any other information that can easily be linked to you.
Never write down your password or PIN. It is recommended that you use a secure password manager. If you receive an email or text that appears to be from a bank, credit union, government office, or any other entity requesting personal information, delete it immediately. Social Security will never email you. Do not click on any links in the email.
The Direct Express Card also has security provided by MasterCard. To read the entire article in the Motley Fool, read here ….
