Social Security Will No Longer Mail Paper Checks - Yahoo! Finance

This article proclaims it’s “the end of an era,” and it definitely is. Social Security has been mailing monthly payments to beneficiaries since the late 1930s. Of course, for many years, Social Security has also been requiring new recipients to provide a financial account into which their monthly SS benefits will be electronically deposited. And that, of course, greatly streamlines the entire process while also reducing the risk that your paper check can be stolen. But there are still about half a million people who get those paper checks – mostly those who started receiving checks before early 1997 or who get multiple types of payments. And for those approximately 500,000 beneficiaries, the era of paper Social Security checks is about to end. This Motley Fool article by Keith Speights, published at Yahoo! Finance, explains.
