Social Security and Women in Retirement
A recent Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies survey reports that more than a quarter of women (27%) picture Social Security as their primary source of retirement income. The survey notes that men are less reliant on their projected Social Security benefits (19%) as a primary source of income, leading to the question: “Why?” GoBanking Rates Lead Writer Gabrielle Olya tackles this question in a post yesterday on their website, titled “What are some possible reasons that more women than men plan to rely on Social Security?”
Ms. Olya’s post addresses women’s concerns about Social Security’s solvency. It offers ideas for how women can prepare for a potential reduction in benefits if steps are not taken to preserve and modernize Social Security to meet the 21st-century economy.
