Musings on Social Security Through the Years

As 2025 winds to a close and we reflect on the somewhat steady stream of commentary about Social Security’s financial problems and its imminent insolvency, now seems a good time to take a breath and reflect on history. We’ve often reposted on this website articles by Tom Margenau, a noted author and 32-year veteran of many Social Security Administration positions, offering our readers the opportunity to benefit from his down-to-earth approach to complex topics.

Today, to close out our 2025 edition of news and information about all things Social Security, we share this link to Margenau’s Mecklenburg Times post on the legislative milestones of this venerable program over its 90-year history. It’s an interesting read, offering some degree of reassurance that Congress will indeed tackle the much-talked-about insolvency problem in time to ward off disaster. History would suggest so, but we’ll see.
