The Saver’s Match Begins in 2027 - swlaw.com

The Saver’s Match was introduced in the Secure Act 2.0 of 2022. Starting in 2027, it will replace the Saver’s Credit, a non-refundable tax credit that reduces the amount of taxes owed. The Saver’s Match provides a direct federal matching contribution to retirement accounts, such as 401(k)s, 403(b)s, governmental 457(b)s, or IRAs. The government will match 50% of your contributions, up to $2,000 for individuals or $4,000 for couples. These matches are subject to income limits that phase out gradually.

The match will be deposited into your designated retirement account and will not affect the 2026 tax return. Anne M. Myer has written an article explaining the Saver’s Match. Read the complete article about the Saver’s Match  here …

The IRS has issued Notice 2024-65 requesting public comments on implementation.  Further guidance from the Treasury Department and the IRS is expected before it takes effect.
