Social Security rules changing in 2027 - Motley Fool

As the old saying goes, “the only thing constant in this world is change.” And we can see that in almost everything – as time marches on, the world seems to change around us. So, as we look forward to next year, it’s natural for American seniors to look at what changes we might expect in 2027 for the nation’s most important retirement program – Social Security. As discussed by Christy Bieber in this article, we can expect our monthly benefit to increase as the annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is awarded (starting with our December 2026 payment). A larger monthly payment is good news indeed in these times of inflated prices! But other program changes might also affect those who rely on Social Security, including those who work while collecting early SS benefits, and those who are still earning the “quarter credits” needed to become eligible for Social Security. All of this is explained in this Motley Fool article.

Social Security is a complex topic. If you’re unsure about how these basics apply to you, or if you have any questions about your individual situation under Social Security or enrollment in Medicare, note that the AMAC Foundation provides a free-to-the-public advisory service to help Americans navigate the complexities of these programs.
