Don’t Laminate your Social Security Card - Cleveland.com
For many, their Social Security card is viewed as a valuable document, and they typically keep it safe. The Social Security Administration (SSA) suggests that you not carry your SS card in your wallet, but rather just memorize your Social Security Number (SSN). After all, your SSN should not be required (or used) for identification, so carrying it only increases the chance it will be lost. And if a nefarious person gains access to your SSN it could result in problems.
Many folks who recognized the importance of their SS card have chosen to have it laminated for purposes of preserving the document. It is, after all, a document you may need for your entire life. But now, the SSA says that laminating your SS card is a bad thing to do, as explained in this Cleveland.com article by Leada Gore.
