A bipartisan Congress presents a bill not to tax lump-sum Social Security Benefits Received by Retirees Affected by WEP and GPO. - Woman's World

In 2025, when the Social Security Fairness Act was signed into law, the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) were eliminated. These were created to offset the Social Security benefits of employees who received a pension in lieu of paying into Social Security. For years, receiving both was considered “double dipping.” As a result, those lump-sum payments are now taxable, creating an unexpected tax burden for many.

If the bill, the “No Tax on Restored Benefit Act,” passes, seniors affected by WEP or GPO who received a lump-sum Social Security payment in 2025 would not have to pay taxes on those funds.

Carissa Mosness wrote an article about this bill, which has been presented to the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. To read her entire article, click here …

  1. Yes,over the years while everyone worked we paid into S.S. and the amount of starting your S.S. never raised. How much do you get on 40 quarters is still the same for along time,Medicare part A.B. should be part of your ret,No matter how much you make. No deductions. And another thing when we worked we never really used our health plans ,because we were healthy being young. We should not have to pay part B out of our S.S. when we get really nothing. Most people can’t afford a rental for 600$
