A Reminder for Widow(ers) and Divorced Spouses in the Wake of HR 82 - NJ.com; AMAC Foundation
Last year’s passage of HR 82 (the so-called “Social Security Fairness Act of 2023“) changed the landscape for millions of current and future beneficiaries, with some of the changes affecting surviving spouses and divorcees. A recent post by NJ.com Trending News Reporter Katherine Rodriguez explains the changes resulting from this bill, and provides a recap of the repealed Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) sections of the Social Security rulebook. By the way, with all due respect to Ms. Rodriguez, there was nothing quiet about the implementation of this rule change…there was, and still is, quite a bit of controversy surrounding HR 82 and its aftermath.
