A true story about a Social Security fraud attempt

We’ve often featured articles about the increase in fraud attempts and scams which try to get at Social Security benefits of unsuspecting people. One particularly egregious scam is when a cyber-criminal tries to fraudulently open an online “My Social Security” account in your name to have your benefit payments diverted to another bank. In this true story appearing at Columbus, Ohio’s ABC6 “On Your Side” section, an 88 year old veteran was able to avoid a financial crisis by reacting quickly to a letter from Social Security.
