About Social Security’s Future

It’s been quite widely reported that Social Security will be facing financial difficulties in the not-too-distant future. And that was true even before the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the U.S. economy. But the pandemic isn’t the real reason Social Security is in trouble. Rather, there is a collection of causes, as discussed in this Motley Fool article by Sean Williams, especially the declining ratio of workers to beneficiaries and the increased longevity of American citizens. The article correctly states that both political parties have solutions to address Social Security’s problems, but neither seems willing to compromise and reach a bipartisan solution.
