ACA Marketplace and small businesses - The Kaiser Family Foundation
Most of the media concentrate their coverage of the ACA Marketplace on individuals and families buying coverage on their own; however, many enrollees are connected to small businesses or are self-employed. It is estimated that 48 percent of adults under age 65 enrolled in the individual market (direct purchase) are either employed by a small business, self-employed entrepreneurs, or small business owners. Matt McGough, Gary Claxton, Matthew Rae, and Cynthia Cox, writing for The Kaiser Family Foundation, published an analysis of the 2024 CPS Annual Social and Economic Supplement data on ACA Marketplace coverage, examining individuals who obtained their healthcare coverage through the Marketplace.
