An Update on President Trump’s Social Security Clean-up Progress

There’s a lot going on in Social Security these days (that’s a bit of an understatement, perhaps), but most of the news focuses on the DOGE efforts to root out the waste and fraud in this massive senior benefit program. A post by 247wallst.com’s John Seetoo provides a recap of some of the key points of this effort, providing statistical updates on areas like the improper payment mess and the problems found I the Social Security Administration’s records. Seetoo’s article, which appeared this week on aol.com, also highlights two bills currently active in Congress to address President Trump’s pledge to eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits, most notably the effort to negate the inclusion of benefits as a part of adjusted gross income in the federal income tax liability calculation. He also touches on the Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA), signed into law on January 5, 2025 (although the article mistakenly claims President Trump was responsible for the signing), calling it a move to “…ensure the ‘integrity and fairness’ of Social Security.” Read the Seetoo post in full here.
