Another View of the “Retirement Crisis”

In contrast to today’s Social Security Report Headline Article, we note that American Enterprise Institute scholar Andrew Biggs, a former deputy commissioner for policy at the Social Security Administration, asserts that the problem may in fact be overstated. Much of this opinion is based on assessments of comfort levels among current retirees, while defenders of the “crisis” label quickly counter with statistics pointing toward deficient savings and projected cost-of-living levels in the years head. In any event, whether the country is headed for a crisis or not, it’s imperative that everyone be aware of the statistics on both sides of the argument. Read today’s headline article and then take a look at Biggs’ post, and then develop your own opinion of what lies ahead for future generations.
