Q & A

Are CSRS retirees required to join Medicare by age 65?

Answer: No, you don’t have to sign up for Medicare. However, it wouldn’t make any sense for you not to sign up for Part A because you’ve already paid for it through payroll deductions, and the benefits are free. Part B is another matter because you’d have to pay the premiums. Only you can decide if Part B is worth the cost.
