Backwards Thoughts on Aging

As Boomers age and start to retire there is a growing pervasive belief that they are getting to be more and more of a burden on society. Ageism runs rampant in the workforce and the aging population is seen inferior by the younger generations. This thought is propagated by stereotypes and jokes about the elderly not understanding technology and similar things, claiming that the Boomer generation is too “old fashioned” for this day and age. This thought process is backwards however, with age comes wisdom and experience that the younger generations can benefit from. This is being picked up on in the business sector where those nearing retirement age are starting to mentor the newer, younger people entering the workforce in preparation for them to take over.
