Bringing Social Security Reform Into Focus - Yahoo! Finance

While still far from a bipartisan agreement on Social Security reform, two U.S. Senators are pushing Congress to establish special commissions to seek needed reform of the Social Security program, as well as Medicare and the Highway Trust Fund. With support from other moderate Senators, the idea for Social Security is to form a bipartisan commission to formulate solutions acceptable to both sides and reform the program before Social Security benefit cuts occur upon SS Trust Fund depletion (estimated to occur in 2033). Of course, as you might expect, some are decrying the proposal as a nefarious plot to gut Social Security, but it’s clear that Social Security reform must be moved to “the front burner” now to avoid painful benefit cuts in the future.
