Choosing A My Social Security Account Sign-in Method - MSN.com

You have the choice between creating either an ID.me or Log.In.gov account. They both allow you access to multiple government agencies.  There is actually little difference between the two. Login.gov has better alternatives for authentication if you don’t always have access to a private phone. You can go to SSA.gov to create an account using the following link: Access here …

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affair not everyone qualifies for a Login.gov account. You can only use it if:

  • Have a Social Security Number
  • Live in the U.S.
  • Have a state issued ID
    • Must have a driver’s license if you live in Alaska, Delaware, Nevada or Wisconsin
  • You prefer online access, but you don’t have a phone plan in your name.

Having a My Social Security account online allows you to manage your Social Security benefits more easily, as it saves you time from being on hold with or having to go to a Social Security office.

  • View your earnings records, benefit estimates and Social Security statements.
  • Change your mailing address or direct deposit information.
  • Replace your Social Security card.
  • Apply for your Social Security Benefits online.
